Rock the Night Away and Help Your Neighbors by Donating Food to Those in Need

August 2010 – A free concert sponsored by the Middlesex County Parks Dept. features The Jukebox Heroes Show by the Mahoney Brothers and the Fabulous Grease Band and will take place on Sunday, September 5th at 4 PM in Roosevelt Park, Edison. The gates open at 3 PM at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater, home of Plays-in-the-Park.

Although admission is no charge, concert-goers are urged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to MCFOODS, Middlesex County’s food bank. MCFOODS serves more than 70 soup kitchens and food pantries in the county. Your generosity will provide food and personal items to many of our neighbors who are going through difficult times. MCFOODS food bins will be located at the entrance to the theater.

The most needed items include: canned goods or plastic jars of tuna fish, peanut butter, jelly, soup, meat, stew, vegetables, rice, fruit, boxes of cereal and pasta as well as shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste and baby items like diapers and wipes.

Freeholder Stephen “Pete” Dalina who oversees the Middlesex County Parks Dept. and the Plays in the Park program, noted, “I’ve been very concerned about the growing number of Middlesex County residents who need emergency food assistance.” He continued, “Our Labor Day concert has traditionally been well-attended, and the food donations of the concert-goers could make a big difference in helping people in need.”

So, bring your lawn chair, a picnic basket and food donations. Have a rockin’ good time and help your neighbors….a great way to spend your holiday weekend.
